How The West Was Won Suite
Music by Alfred Newman
When this music was released in 1962 it received aclaim for its unwavering breadth and wide scope. It quickly became regarded as one of the best, if not the best Western scores at that time and still holds up very well after all these years. Even though there was plenty of hours of music to sift through, the resulting movie suite feels like a complete composition, even if it is a bit repetitious at times, as the main theme meanders in and out of the listener's conciousness. I remember how impressed I felt when I saw this movie for the first time as a small boy in the 60's and it's a certainty that the music is responsible for that impression. With a timing of 31:30, you will want to add this to your collection. Enjoy! -MJ
