Road To Perdition Movie Suite

Road To Perdition Movie Suite
Music by Thomas Newman

Another gangster-crime movie suite from 2002 takes center stage today. With a quirky use of instruments such as pipes, acoustic guitars as well as the orchestra, we are treated to a different take on the bleakness of the seedy side of life and lost hope. This is our first movie suite by Mr. Newman and it is different enough to be in a class by itself. Although there is only a little orchestration, with a timing of 29:43 it still passes by quickly and leaves us wondering if there will be more. I hope you enjoy.  -MJ

Taxi Driver Movie Suite

Taxi Driver Movie Suite
Music by Bernard Herrmann

Keeping within our theme of gangster-crime suites, in this 1975 crime drama, we are given a movie suite that was Mr. Herrmann's very last gift to the world of motion picture music. Although this is mostly jazz with a light touch of orchestral support, we are nonetheless drawn into the gritty world of early 70's New York in all its squaller. This music grows on you, with the light main theme and the tightness of other cues merging into a short burst of musical genius. With a timing of 18:35 this is certainly worth a listen. Enjoy.  -MJ

The Untouchables Movie Suite

Untouchables, The Movie Suite
Music by Ennio Morricone

This 1987 movie suite begins our new phase of "Gangster-Crime" related suites. Mr. Morricone was nominated for an Oscar for this one, so you know that it has plenty of pedigree as well as heart.  In Morricone fashion it is also quite minimalistic. Whether we hear a lone harmonica, single violin or a snare drum, the orchestra is rarely brought in except to make a bold statement. Well, it works and with a timing of 20:50, I hope that you really enjoy this.  -MJ

Total Recall Movie Suite

Total Recall Movie Suite
Music by Jerry Goldsmith

In this original 1990 sci-fi movie suite, we are treated to much of what made Mr. Goldsmith such a great composer. He started out with an idea to blend sythesizer with orchestra and in the process he came up with unstoppable action cues that offer a balanced, yet stirring soundscape. Considered by many as his best work, this certainly is in Jerry's top five movie suites for certain. With a timing of 28:27, I feel confidant that you'll enjoy this.  -MJ

Total Recall 2012 Movie Suite

Total Recall 2012 Movie Suite
Music by Harry Gregson-Williams

This 2012 remake shares much with the original motion picture; plenty of action, futuristic landscapes and a thrilling storyline. As for the music, well, this is a synth-fest from start to finish, with very little orchestral cues or themes to hear. We are barraged by the pumping synthesizer and it seems as if it is rushing to the final note as quickly as possible. Oh well, that's what we are getting lately from many of the composers and Mr. Gregson-Williams probably did not want to be left out. If you really want to know, this is as good as what we get from Zimmer or Joblonsky with only a few twists or turns along the way. With a timing at 28:46, if you like synthesizer music, then you should enjoy this, but Goldsmith this is not!  -MJ

JUST A NOTE

Just A Note
by Sir Malcolm James

Thank you to the fan who recently brought to my attention that the Toucanshare links are not working at all. In fact that sharing site is completely gone from the web just as so many others have fallen by the wayside. We have decided to utilize Mediafire.com for all current and future downloads as well as Depositfiles.com, although the later only keeps files for a maxmum of 90 days. All links for 2012 have been updated and hopefully, the remainder of links will be up by next week. Thanks for lurking and keep on listening. -MJ
