Gangster Squad Movie Suite

Gangster Squad Movie Suite
Music by Steve Jablonsky

In this recent movie suite from 2013, we are treated to more of Mr. Jablonsky's synth and percussion style with a measure of unusual sounds to round out this interesting work. You might have thought this would be more stylistic considering the time period of the motion picture, but no, this music is very reminiscent of his Transformer's suites and one can hear the influences of one of his mentors, Hans Zimmer, also. Of course, with all that being said, this is still a great composition that is entertaining as well as what we'll be hearing for years to come. I hope you enjoy.  -MJ

Oz The Great And Powerful Movie Suite

Oz The Great and Powerful Movie Suite
Music by Danny Elfman

In this 2013 music suite we are reminded that Mr. Elfman is quite handy at whipping up the orchestra and voices to serve his listeners with another quirky, yet whimsical suite that at times borders on the scary. Gee, I wonder if that was his intention? Still, if you like the Elfman's style, then you will be happy to listen to this many, many times. There's no place like...Movie Suites, there's no place like...Move Suites! Sure hope you enjoy.  -MJ.

The Greatest Story Ever Told Movie Suite

Greatest Story Ever Told, The Suite
Music by Alfred Newman

In this 1965 movie suite we are bringing out another classic by Mr. Alfred Newman. Although this music is mostly solemn, rarely gripping, the lushness of the strings gives us a glimpse at why this was nominated for an Academy Award, losing to Maurice Jarre and his score from Doctor Zhivago. Still, this is considered the best movie suite that Mr. Newman composed so it is without a doubt worth listening to. Hope you enjoy.  -MJ

The Bible Movie Suite

The Bible Suite
Music by Hans Zimmer, Lorne Balfe, Lisa Gerrard

In this recent mini-series suite from 2013, we are treated to a majestic yet understated work of Mr. Zimmer's that speaks volumes on where his music is heading in the present future. Consisting of his current blend of voices, sythesizers and orchestral cues, we are taken on a journey to the time and places of the Bible. So much of the original score was filled with voices, chants and choral, but this movie suite is what is remaining after the majority of those have been removed. Although this ends quite suddenly, I beleive that it will hold up well to multiple listens. I hope you enjoy!  -MJ

Black Rain Movie Suite

Black Rain Movie Suite
Music Composed by Hans Zimmer

This haunting movie suite from 1989 comes to us with little recommendation since it appeared in the early years of Mr. Zimmer's illustrious composing career. Still, after a special request, I'm always one to look into these things to find that this is a very difficult soundtrack CD to get ones hands on, but as luck had it I found this in the wrong bin at a used CD store.  I must apologize in advance for the sound quality. It is a bit lack luster, even with some punching up and filling out, the soft passages are very quiet and the loud are deafening, this synthesized movie suite still brings excitement to the listener's ears while showing us how the composer got started. I hope you enjoy.  -MJ
