North By Northwest Movie Suite

North By Northwest Movie Suite
Music by Bernard Herrmann

This classic movie suite from the 1959 Hitchcock thriller is filled with tightly wound themes that were crafted by Mr. Herrmann in the his most prolific heyday. Whether signifying death defying leaps, chase scenes or the moments of two lovers, this suite is filled with chops and props. In a word, amazing. With a timing of 22 minutes, I must apologize for the small amounts of hiss that crop up in the quieter phrases, but this is still the best sound available for this music. I hope you enjoy!!  -MJ

Hugo Movie Suite

Hugo Movie Suite
Music by Howard Shore

Ever since this Academy Award nominated soundtrack from 2011 came out, I have listened to it countless times in an effort to create the movie suite, but this music felt so familiar as well as so accessible that it remained complete as only a score collecting dust with my other CD's. Well, now that it has been prodded and tweaked, we have a recent movie suite that celebrates the sound of France as well as the composer's use of sweeping strings disguised as children's music. Of course, this suite is anything but child's play with its mystical melodies and complex scoring. With a timing of 22:33, I hope you enjoy this over and over again.  -MJ

Game of Thrones Season Two Suite

Game of Thrones Season Two Suite
Music by Ramin Djawadi

Utilizing many of the same nerve wrenching formulaic themes as in the first season, Mr. Djawadi has returned with a suite from the fantasy mini-series that rarely slows to take a breath. Exhaustive percussion and explosive horns keep the listener from faltering as we are taken for another ride into the world of dragons, swords and wannabe Kings. With a timing of 28:36 you will wonder where the time went. Hope you enjoy.  -MJ

Charge of The Light Brigade, The Movie Suite (1936)

Charge of The Light Brigade, The Suite (1936)
Music by Max Steiner

Although this movie suite was derived from the re-recording of this magnificent score, not the original score, we are being treated to the what is arguably the best version available to us of this 1936 classic. With some intense main character themes as well as many action cues we can just sit back and listen to what has always been considered as Max Steiner's very best work. Whether it is the throes of a love scene or the building percussion cues that lead up to the actual charge of The Light Brigade, I can only say that if you've never heard this before, now is your chance to enjoy. With a timing of 44:44, have at it.  -MJ

Charge of The Light Brigade, The Movie Suite (1968)

Charge of The Light Brigade, The Suite (1968)
Music by John Addison

Given the days & times when this was composed in 1967-68, we may forgive Mr. Addison for carrying some simple patriotic themes throughout this movie suite. In the original score, there were unusual moments of yelling from a chorus of voices that was mixed in with the orchestra, that simply was bizarre. Still after much perseverance and editing, we end up with a movie suite that if not very composition happy, it still feels like the themes flow easily from beginning to end.  If you never heard this before,  I am presenting this as a comparison to the earlier work of the same name. With a timing of 18:09 I hope you enjoy this dated classic.  -MJ
