The Last Samurai Movie Suite

Last Samurai, The Suite
Music by Hans Zimmer

While longing for another time, this music packs an emotional wallop as it uses synthesizers along with Japanese instruments to paint us a picture of the end of an era. Mr. Zimmer drops us into the center of this musical tapestry so that we can experience the longing for a better time, a thought so fitting to us here and now. Although this will be the last movie suite by Mr. Zimmer for a bit, with an output of over 65 motion picture scores, you certainly haven't seen nor heard the last of him. With a timing of 22 and a half minutes, I hope you really enjoy. -MJ

Black Hawk Down Movie Suite

 Black Hawk Down Suite
Music by Hans Zimmer

Continuing the trend with Mr. Zimmer, please accept this offer for the movie suite from the motion picture score of Black Hawk Down. Without discussing the politics of this film, the music puts us into the middle of a strangely exciting world of middle easterm themes and instruments. Synthesizers hum as electric guitars pressure the very air we breath, while we experience the tension created by this outer vision of sound. Is this the best score by Hans Zimmer? Many will argue "yes", but I can't say. It certainly is powerful. Oh yeah, in case I failed to mention it, this takes multiple listening to really "get" it! With a timing of 26 and a half minutes, I hope you'll enjoy this one, too. -MJ

Sherlock Holmes Movie Suite

 Sherlock Holmes Suite
Music by Hans Zimmer

This recent 2010 movie score is another one of those that breaks new ground in sound while taking you for an enjoyable ride. One theme is begun and then it is methodically replayed, first this way, then that way. You'd think that this would become boring, but instead it seems new and alive, full of invigorating richness. How Mr. Zimmer keeps coming up with these new scores is beyond me, but I'll continue to offer his movie suites as long as he keeps them coming. With a timing of just under 18 minutes, I hope you enjoy. -MJ

Crimson Tide Movie Suite

Crimson Tide Suite
Music by Hans Zimmer

When this motion picture was released, the score was hailed as groundbreaking, the first of its kind and described by various stupendous adjectives because of Mr. Zimmer's use of orchestra and synthesizers. Phew! Well, all I can say about that, is this movie suite is full of sound; with voices, drums, synthetic as well as natural instruments. If you've never heard this, it is time to sample the waters, and if you love Hans Zimmer as so many of us do, then this 23 minute movie suite will show you this music in a new way. I hope you enjoy. -MJ

The Mummy Movie Suite

Mummy, The Suite
Music by Jerry Goldsmith

Taking us to a place far, far away, Mr. Goldsmith attacks this music with a passion and ferver that takes us on an adventure ride that rarely slows down. With the horns setting a pace that quickly becomes frantic, we still have the synthetic sounds that remind us we are listening to a piece of fantasy. As always, Mr. Goldsmith delivers a fantastic movie suite and with a timing of 16 and a half minutes, it leaves us wanting for more. Enjoy! -MJ

The Mummy Returns Movie Suite

Mummy Returns, The Suite
Music by Alan Silvestri

For the sequel, Mr. Silvestri brought his fine scoring to this action packed work of fantasy. With a single theme that invokes the sounds of ancient Egypt and is reminiscent of the first score theme by Jerry Goldsmith, we are transported into a singular world that is filled with lush strings and thunderous horns. Maybe a bit overused, the theme never lets us forget exactly what were listening to, and that is a good thing. With a timing of almost 29 minutes, this will keep you occupied. As always, I hope that you enjoy this. -MJ

Mummy, Tomb of The Dragon Emperor, The Movie Suite

Mummy Tomb of the Dragon Emperor Suite
Music by Randy Edelman

While taking a few cues from his predecessors, Mr. Edelman crafted a smart and catchy theme that he starts out with and then carries it throughout in one form or another. After making the movie suite, I hummed this theme for a week. It was impossible to get it out of my head. With a timing of over 24 minutes, it will probably grab your attention, too. I hope that you enjoy this one. -MJ

Back To The Future I Movie Suite

Back To The Future Suite
Music by Alan Silvestri

This time we'll get it right! At least when it comes to the motion picture score. Mr. Silvestri brings us the perfectly crafted score to match the sustained intensity of this movie. Action, chases, love scenes and the quest to return home merge into a fun and entertaining movie suite that rarely pauses enough to let you get your breath. With a timing of just over 23 minutes you'll feel as if you just got hit by a bolt of lightning! Enjoy. -MJ

Back To The Future II Movie Suite

Back To The Future II Suite
Music by Alan Silvestri

Maintaining the intense excitement of the first movie score, Mr. Silvestri brought back the music we loved while he expanded, contorted, added and basically gave us more of the same. Thank you very much! While I refuse to judge the movie, this is probably the best of the three movie suites from BTTF because it has multiple chase sequences, numerous moments of anxiousness and of course that main theme that we love. With a timing of just fifteen and a half minutes, it will be all over before you realize it. Just remember to enjoy! -MJ

Back To The Future III Movie Suite

Back To The Future III Suite
Music by Alan Silvestri

In this last installment to the time travel trilogy we fondly refer to as BTTF, Mr. Silvestri borrowed some of the cues and well-heeled passages from the two previous films while adding some choice western themes. The result is a fitting conclusion to the trilogy as well as an enjoyable excursion into the land of movie suites. With a timing of just over 19 minutes, you'll be glad you tarried. Hope you enjoyed this. -MJ

G.I. Joe The Rise of Cobra Movie Suite

G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra Suite
Music by Alam Silvestri

Here is another recent release that's still in the theaters. Taking a cue from his own library of work, Mr. Silvestri has come up with a nice work of action packed music that starts with high intensity and simply pushes towards the limits from there. Although the themes are subtle, the music certainly is not. This is not a masterwork, but this is bombastic entertainment at it's best. If you like his other work, you'll enjoy this. -MJ.

Avatar Movie Suite

Avatar Suite
Music by James Horner

Since we have a new decade, we should start out this year with the latest motion picture score that is rocking the world. The movie, Avatar, is groundbreaking. So too, is the music which sets a new bar. Mr. Horner brought his "A" game when he composed the motion picture score, yet when you listen you know that you've heard it all before. Please, don't get me wrong. I love this score. Some of my favorite movie scores were penned by James Horner, so it makes sense that this too makes my favorites list. In fact, this movie suite turns out to be the longest running I've ever done at just under 44 minutes. This will have to do until the extended version of the score is released. Sure hope that you enjoy. -MJ
