Alice In Wonderland Movie Suite

Alice In Wonderland Suite
Music by Danny Elfman

The movie suite from this fresh release certainly tested my meddle.  As a lover of orchestral music, the addition of choral voices raised in song, chant or support rarely excites Sir Malcolm, so when he was working on this movie suite it was with some measure of frustration.  It was perplexing. Should all of the voices be edited away or should I leave the voices as the composer meant to be heard?  Of course there are many instances when the voices must stay in the music, most recently, Avatar immediately comes to mind, as well as so many others.  Unfortunately, for some reason Mr. Elfman's use of voice and choral in this work, seemed as if it were added as an afterthought.  Only he knows for certain, and the two of us haven't been speaking as of late, so after a long and tedious attempt to remove the voices, here is the movie suite for Alice In Wonderland with the voices intact.  Just as it should be.  There are some wonderfully catchy themes throughout that beg you to hum along with, even long after the music has stopped playing. With a timing of 29:12, you'll be humming "ALICE" long afterwards, too! Hope you enjoy!  -MJ

The Curse of the Black Pearl Movie Suite - Pirates of the Caribbean

Pirates of the Caribbean I Suite
Music by Klaus Badelt

Here's another trilogy of excellent movie music.  The swashbuckling exploits of Jack the Pirate come to us in this hard driving movie suite that is filled with side splitting riffs as well as some tender moments of mishandled love.  Mr. Badelt did himself proud with this music and we're glad he did, since the main theme not only helps carry the movie, but it is inspiring as well as memorable.  Although the main theme doesn't appear until almost 9:00 minutes in, it is obviously composed of bits of what you've been hearing already and will continue to hear as this roars to its eventual end.  Great work Klaus, we applaud you.  With a timing of 19:11 don't forget that this is just the first movie suite of the trilogy. Enjoy it!  -MJ

Dead Man's Chest Movie Suite - Pirates of the Caribbean

Pirates of the Caribbean II Suite
Music by Hans Zimmer

From the beginning notes of the lone fiddle (violin?) building into the full orchestra along with the help of an amped-up electric guitar and chorus of raised voices, there is no doubt that Mr. Zimmer has taken the reins of this sequel and filled it with his own private relishes.  Although this sounds similar to the first music suite, it shares little with it.  Bombastic throughout the entirety, we race along until suddenly it abruptly stops. Whoa there, what happened?  Where did the music suite go?  I guess they want you to listen to the last music suite for the ending.  Hopefully we'll have that for your enjoyment very soon.  With a timing of 20:52 this is not the most thematic compositionally by this composer, but it's alot of fun.  I hope you enjoy.  -MJ

At World's End Movie Suite - Pirates of the Caribbean

Pirates of the Caribbean III Suite
Music by Hans Zimmer

Thundering headlong into our senses, this is the final of the POTC trilogy, a fine music suite that Mr. Zimmer has dropped on us like a bomb with mega-tons of percussion to propell us along until we too must await our fate at the ends of the earth.  Sharing little with its predecessor, this movie suite is relentlessly pushing ahead, constantly striving to beat the anticipated goal. Of course it can and will be debated, but this is a fitting final to this trilogy; that is until the next episode is released and we have another movie suite to experience.  With a timing of 28:36 you'll want to make time for this one!  Sure hope you enjoy!  -MJ

RoboCop Movie Suite

RoboCop I Suite
Music by Basil Poledouris

Basil Poledouris was always able to compose some great themes that were so catchy, that once you've heard one, it was now with you forever. With a force to be reckoned with, he has masterfully composed some bold music for this movie suite that has horns at the front and a powerful percussion backing.  With some tender moments as well, the first time you listen to this movie suite, you might not get it, but then the next time, you'll be glad you took the time to listen.  It just grows on you like that. The timing comes out to 23:05 and as always, I hope that you enjoy.  -MJ

RoboCop 2 Movie Suite

RoboCop 2 Suite
Music by Leonard Roseman

For the sequel, we have Mr. Roseman taking the baton and putting his spin on our robot friend.  I have it here because it completes the trilogy, not because it is unusually groundbreaking, nor is it boring either.  It is simply movie music which has no real themes, nor was it easy to find much that can be to put into a suite with any form of composition.  With a timing of 10:42, this is a pretty short movie suite.  Still, you might really like it. Listen to all three at the same sitting.  That really works.  Enjoy!  -MJ

RoboCop 3 Movie Suite

RoboCop 3 Suite
Music by Basil Poledouris

Returning in triumph to complete this sci-fi series, Mr. Poledouris gets right down to business with a movie suite that picks up exactly where the first suite left off.  With brash horns and sultry strings, it is so great to hear that some of the themes are repeated from earlier, but he breaks enough new ground to make it fresh and powerful, convincing us to listen until the very last note. With a timing of 19:25, I really hope you enjoy this one, it's on me.  -MJ

Flesh and Blood Movie Suite

Flesh & Blood Suite
Music by Basil Poledouris

Continuing the recent theme of action packed movie suites with a sword swinging hero, please take notice that here is another interesting movie suite by one of our favorite composers.  Serious usage of the orchestra's percussion, drives this movie suite forward while the strings of the main theme flirt back and forth. The music is medieval sounding in purpose while it accompanies us on our journey. In comparison to Mr. Poledouris other work, there is a tendancy for this to sound a little laid-back, but with a timing of 27:47, I hope that you'll enjoy.  -MJ
