The Three Musketeers - 1993

The Three Musketeers Suite - 1993
Music by Michael Kamen

Since it was almost twenty years since the last Three Musketeer's picture, Disney decided to put together a new version of the veritable story in 1993 with a group of younger actors while also choosing Mr. Kamen to compose the music. The movie suite we end up with is a swashbuckling action-adventure with a comical flourish that is lightly tossed around the action cues. That's okay, since this is all for one in good fun, and as long as the composer does not take this too seriously, neither will we. With a timing of 26:05, I hope you enjoy.  -MJ

The Musketeer Movie Suite - 2001

The Musketeer Movie Suite
Music by David Arnold

With all those James Bond scores under his belt, it is no wonder that Mr. Arnold was asked to compose this 2001 version of the Three Musketeers. Luckily for us he runs the table with incredibly fast pacing with an upbeat openning sequence that introduces the main theme that only slows for a moment before it gathers steam. The orchestration of this movie suite spills from one cue to another, never letting us forget that this is from an action-adventure motion picture and that we should just sit back and enjoy the ride. With a timing of 25:12, I believe that you will enjoy this one.  -MJ

The Three Musketeers Movie Suite - 2011

Three Musketeers, The Suite - 2011
Music by Paul Haslinger

The latest motion picture to take on the Three Musketeers franchise brings us into the post millenium with a rousing movie suite that was composed by ex-Tangerine Dream member, Paul Haslinger. Keeping his eye on the final product, he moves through the various pumped-up synthesizer cues with finesse, the sound reminiscent of many current motion picture score composers, yet still different enough to beg a listen. As a composition, this movie suite is many bits and pieces, joined deliberately, yet it is still entertaining. With a timing of 22:28, if you like the current crop of action-adventure movie suites, you'll probably enjoy this.  -MJ

John Carter Movie Suite

John Carter Movie Suite
Music by Michael Giacchino

This action-adventure (or is it a sci-fi adventure?) movie suite is filled with all the makings of another success for Mr. Giacchino. The Academy Award winning composer has pulled out all the stops with a huge orchestra, a smattering of choral voices, as well as the occasional synthesizer. The main theme doesn't even start until after the first 5 minutes, but once underway the music reminds me of Horner with the oohs and ahs, Broughton with the swirling strings and even Giacchino's Star Trek, but don't get me wrong, he has crafted a new and vivid soundscape that translated well into a movie suite. With a timing of 29:42 this is great enjoyment. When can we expect a sequel?? -MJ

Air Force One Movie Suite

Air Force One Suite
Music by Jerry Goldsmith

Without tipping the scales in one direction or another, Mr. Goldsmith penned a fantastic main theme for this 1997 movie suite that is a heroic fanfare, with horns a-blazing at the front of the orchestra while we tensely look over our shoulder for another bad-guy. Fortunately, he weaves this theme in and out in so many ways that even by the end, we are still hoping to hear it one more time.  With a timing of 23:54 this will raise your hopes for enjoyment.  -MJ
