The Three Musketeers - 1993

The Three Musketeers Suite - 1993
Music by Michael Kamen

Since it was almost twenty years since the last Three Musketeer's picture, Disney decided to put together a new version of the veritable story in 1993 with a group of younger actors while also choosing Mr. Kamen to compose the music. The movie suite we end up with is a swashbuckling action-adventure with a comical flourish that is lightly tossed around the action cues. That's okay, since this is all for one in good fun, and as long as the composer does not take this too seriously, neither will we. With a timing of 26:05, I hope you enjoy.  -MJ

Lifeforce Movie Suite

Lifeforce Movie Suite
Music by Henry Mancini and Michael Kamen

Here is a movie suite from a scary science fiction motion picture that grabs you immediately with the main theme, a cue that is both catchy and memorable as it thrusts the listener forward. Although there are some tense moments in this music, there is a feeling that this is going somewhere whether you listen or not. Almost an attitude. Most of this movie suite was penned by Mr. Mancini, yet from what I researched, Mr. Kamen also added some orchestrations, too.  With a timing of 30:20 this rarely heard music is worth a good listen. I hope you enjoy.  -MJ

Band Of Brothers Movie Suite

Band of Brothers Suites I/II
Music by Michael Kamen

This 2001 HBO mini-series was scored by Michael Kamen, a composer well known for his work on Highlander and other respected scores. The enormous amount of music he wrote for this project spans orchestral cues, choral cues as well as title themes that carry the weight of this production. Due to this, we are fortunate to have two distinctive suites for your enjoyment. The first movie suite only slightly reminds us of other War Picture suites with a full orchestra and strong military themes rushing toward a quick conclusion. The timing for this suite is 17:41. Much different than the usual War Picture Suite, the second movie suite is a solemn yet lush orchestral arrangement mixed with a touch of voices at the beginning and ending. It is quite beautiful and very touching to hear. The timing for this suite is 22:02.  Although titled Part I and Part II, they are separate works of pleasure that complement one another. These should keep you busy for some time, but as always, I hope you enjoy them.  -MJ

Robin Hood Prince of Thieves Movie Suite

Robin Hood Prince of Thieves Suite
Music by Michael Kamen

We go back to 1991 for the second movie suite in row with the music offered by Mr. Kamen.  Scoring for an action packed love story, he seemed determined to offer his listeners a memorable main theme that they could remember easily.  This theme became the basis which he resonated successfully throughout the movie in one form or another.  Other sub-themes round out the the score and we have an enjoyable movie suite with a timing of just 23:23.  Enjoy!  -MJ

Highlander Movie Suite

Highlander Suite
Music by Michael Kamen

Often times, a movie takes on a life of its own by sometimes becoming a "cult" classic that surpasses the actual material as it was delivered.  The motion picture score for the first of the Highlander movies was a monumental task that brought Michael Kamen into the fold with the legendary rock band Queen to support a movie that since it's release has become the epitome of "cult" movies.  It's true that there are some amazing jewels in the songs performed by Queen, but if you ask, many believe that the real gem is the score.  Sweeping in majesty it is filled with lyrical themes that beg to be safely collected into a movie suite that is simply awesome (sorry for the use of such an awesome adjective) to hear. With a timing of just over 25 minutes, you may notice that there is some hiss to the sound.  Unfortunately, the original analog tapes have not survived in a form that transferred well into the digital world.  Every version was checked and tested for quality and what you hear is the best that can be found.  Until Mr. Kamen decides to re-record this, this will have to do.  I hope you enjoy!  -MJ
