Around The World In 80 Days Movie Suite (1955)

Around The World In 80 Days Suite (1955)
Music by Victor Young

What we have here is a classic movie suite from this 1955 travel-comedy. Surrounding the listener with a well-known, lushly orchestrated main theme that is repeated throughout the piece in various methods and versions to our delight. This our first movie suite penned by Victor Young, it is his very best work, from a man who was a noted film composer in the thirties, forties and fifties with this score winning him his only Academy award. With a timing of 21:28, you may find yourself humming this one long after you've listened to it. Nonetheless, I hope you enjoy!  -MJ

Around The World In 80 Days Movie Suite (2004)

Around The World In 80 Days Suite (2004)
Music by Trevor Jones

We have a 2004 remake that utilizes the music of Mr. Jones in a lightly orchestratic movie suite that rarely lifts itself above numerous chase themes with nere an homage towards the original motion picture from the fifties. Certainly, the producers instructed the composer to keep the sound as upbeat as possible and this movie suite overflows with many more fluff cues than it probably should. Don't misunderstand, because this is entertainingly fun from the beginning to the end and it deserves a listen. In fact, this can grow on you after repeated listening. With a timing of 26:01, I hope you enjoy.  -MJ

Battleship Movie Suite

Battleship
Music by Steve Jablonsky

This recent sci-fi, action picture generated plenty of marketing but we wanted to know exactly where the movie suite plays out. Is this a synthisized pound-fest or have we been blessed with an orchestral burst of brilliance? Well, after weeding through a soundtrack laden with sound effects, you have a lean movie suite full of glossy synthisizer music that pretends to borrow some orchestral moments along the way, but in reality this is simply a pound-fest. If you listened to the Transformer movie suites, then you know what you are in for. Still, the tour-de-force of this music is not to be toyed with. With a timing of 17:41, still hope you enjoy this.  -MJ

The Blue Max Movie Suite

The Blue Max
Music by Jerry Goldsmith

Although the snare drums and horns proclaim this to be music from a war-picture, when the lushly orchestrated strings sweep into the soundscape we are transported into the blue skies of wonder. If we take into consideration that this movie suite hails from way back in 1966, then we should cut Mr. Goldsmith some slack for composing rip roaring adventure music for a love story. Or is it lovey dovey music for an action adventure yarn? Oh well!  Whatever the movie is about (WWI dogfights in the air), this composition has a great mix of classic Goldsmith which many have hailed as his coming-of-age soundtrack for a composer. With a timing of 27:08 this classic should be in your library. I hope you enjoy.  -MJ
